Salvation Army Nightwatch Canteen

Hilltop UMC has joined with Sioux Falls area United Methodist Churches to provide a Sunday evening meal for persons in the community who might not otherwise have that meal.  The absence of a Sunday evening meal at The Banquet leaves many people without food until Monday.  The Canteen is a recreational vehicle owned and formerly operated by the Salvation Army of Sioux Falls.  The Salvation Army refocused their services and were no longer able to continue the Sunday evening meal.  Nine UM churches in the Sioux Falls area have made the Canteen part of their mission outreach in the city.  Every nine weeks 200 sack lunches are assembled in Fellowship Hall on Sunday morning.  At 5:00 p.m. the lunches are loaded into the Canteen and distributed in the parking lot at First UM Church.  Later it is moved to the parking lot at Killian Community College where the remainder of the lunches are handed out.
